Some evidence indicates there is the third sub-species, P. e. princeps, found only on the islands of Princpe and Bioko. It is larger and darker than P. erithacus and it may also be the same sub-species with a regional adaptation of colors restricted to those locales.

Thus there are two different species or subtypes of Grey Parrots: the Congo (P. e. erithacus) and the Timneh (P. e. timneh). The first one is the larger type and this type is more intelligent.
