Peafowl are able to breed at the age of two years. Peahens usually lay from 6 to 8 eggs. The eggs are light brown in color. Peahens sit on the eggs about 28 days. Peachicks begin to run and eat as soon as they hatch.

The common name of these birds can be applied only to males; other birds should be called peahens. Peahens are smaller than males. Males usually weigh 9-13 pounds and peahens weigh 6-9 pounds.
