There are two wild species of peafowl. These species are the Indian and the Javan. The Indian species is the most widely spread in India. The head of females is chestnut. Their back is brown and the mantle is green. The forepart of the neck and throat of peahens are white. The wing coverts of these birds are coarsely mottled with buff and black.
