Red Bellied Macaw

The red bellied macaw subsists on a diet almost entirely composed of palm nuts; these birds are kept in aviaries, and you can look at a photo to see one. The correct taxonomy of this species is uncertain. For many years it was placed in the genus Ara because of the birds’ size and bald facial mask, but nowadays some scientists place it in the genus Orthopsittaca.
