The southern hummingbird can be viewed in most zoo aviaries, and sometimes chicks are present.
Hummers from eastern and western parts of the USA migrate to the south in the fall, because they need a lot of flowers every day. Their diet consists mainly of nectar and tree sap, very rarely they catch insects.

The majority of about 400 species of these birds live near the equator in tropical forests and only 17 species are seen in the USA. In Texas, Arizona and nearest states it is possible to see 15 species of these birds. The southern hummingbird can be viewed in most zoo aviaries, and sometimes chicks are present.
