Hawk Head Parrot

The habitat of the bird ranges from north Brazil and the Guyanas to south-eastern Columbia and north-eastern Peru. The species is considered to be endangered due to deforestation and extensive pet-trade business. Some species are nearly extinct, and there are no more than a dozen of them in the wild.

The deroptyus accipitrinus occupies a unique place among other parrots. There is still little certainty as to its taxonomy, and more often than not it is referred to either as a descendant of Amazons (due to the crest and the overall coloring), or as the offspring of conures (Pionites).
