Several breeders have made an appeal for new blood as the present populations are inbred. The race of the Black found in the States are probably the Indian Subspecies (Francolinus francolinus asiae). There are several subspecies found over a large area of Europe and Asia.

These are very interesting birds that do well in captivity, but many others are not at this time found in captivity and thus offer a challenge and potential for captive propagation.
