There are actually eight species of these birds. The Plum-crowned (P. tumultuosus), the White-headed (P. tumultuosus seniloides), and the Bronze-winged Pionus (P. chalcopterus) are classed as high-altitude birds. The Bronze-winged Pionus has been known to frequent mid-elevation and coastal forests also. These chicks are funny and the aviaries make great pets; it is important to choose a good breeder.
