Mallard Duck
The mallard duck usually travels with flocks of birds and isn't usually raised by a breeder.
Males of this species are easily distinguished from the females by the green iridescent plumage on the head and neck. The female's plumage is drab brown. Both sexes have iridescent blue speculum on the wings. These birds are able to breed in a year of age. Males leave females after mating and they have to incubate the eggs alone. The incubation period lasts for 26-28 days. When the ducklings hatch, the mother leads them to water and will never return to the nest.

The mallards are found mostly in North America and Northern Central America. They nest under boulders, in tree holes, in the crotch of trees, or in open areas. These birds are omnivores and eat various seeds including corn, wheat, barley, bulrushes, wild rice, primrose, willow, seeds of water elm, oak, hackberry, trees of swamps or river bottoms. The diet of these birds also includes mollusks, insects, small fish, tadpoles, freshwater snails, fish eggs, and frogs. They usually feed at the water surface and are known as "dabbling birds."
