Bird Dove

The females lack the black mask of the male and therefore are similar in appearance to Turtur chalcospilos, T. abyssinicus and T. afer. The head of the female is grayish-brown with whitish forehead, face and throat, obscure blackish postural spot and dull brown line from gape to eye.

There are about 300 species of these creatures and only a few of them are kept in captivity in the United States. One of these species is the Cape type. Adult males have the following coloring: forehead, face below the eye, throat and breast are black, giving the species a mask-like appearance. A bird dove photo is best to view at a breeder.
