Bald eagles are opportunistic feeders. Their favorite food is fish, but they can also feed on small mammals, waterfowl and carrion. These birds can conserve energy and don’t need to hunt every day. When soaring, they don’t flap their wings, but use the rising columns of warm air. It’s a very spectacular sight to see Bald eagles soaring and gliding down. Eagle watching can disturb nesting birds, so when in the eagle country, people should be very careful. If disturbed, Bald eagles usually leave the nest with eggs and even with chicks.

American Bald eagles are beautiful and powerful birds, which have been chosen as the national symbol of the United States of America. They are the largest American birds. Their wingspan reaches 6-7.5 feet, or even more in females that are larger than males. Adult birds are characterized by the white head and tail. The white head and tail appear when the bird reaches the age of four or even five years. Immature birds do not have white coloring, and are quite similar in appearance to golden eagles.
